Belkin SOHO KVM Switch - Since When Have KVM Switches Been This Desirable?

If you're looking to run more than one computer via your existing
monitor, keyboard and mouse set up then you need a KVM switch but, until
now, such peripherals have, from a design perspective at least, been
less than inspiring affairs best hidden from view - but Belkin's new
SOHO KVM manages to achieve what we thought otherwise impossible in
being a KVM switch you'll be more than happy to give up highly prized
desktop real estate in order to show off.

Prior to coming across Belkin's new SOHO KVM if you had asked us whether
we could ever envisage raving about the design of a KVM switch we would
have thought you mad. But here we are, about to do exactly that, as the
design of Belkin's SOHO KVM is a work of genius from a design team who
obviously know what how to get our cold, geek hearts palpitating with
desire..

Featuring touch sensitive controls and the form factor of a sleek,
glossy black box, the Belkin SOHO KVM is available in six versions
allowing for VGA, PS2 and DVI connections each of which also serves as a
two port USB 2.0 hub (one port front mounted, the second placed at the
rear of the unit) which is a welcome addition that will doubtless prove
especially handy just when it never seems that you have quite enough USB
ports available to accommodate all your connectivity requirements (USB
fish tank, et al).

The Belkin SOHO KVM Switch is expected to retail for around $160 or $270
for the 2 port and four port models respectively.

Laser Target Alarm Clock Offers a Little Morning Target Practice

Novel alarm clocks are a dime a dozen these days but this Laser Target
Alarm Clock is certainly more novel than most in offering a little
morning target practice in order to help wrestle you from the depths of
your slumber.

Featuring a separate handheld laser gun which must be fired directly at
the clock's target in order to turn the alarm off, if a little morning
target practice is not enough to bring you to your senses, you could
always try placing the laser gun in another room necessitating its
prompt retrieval in order to silence the alarm.

Unfortunately we are unable to offer pricing details concerning the
Laser Target Alarm Clock at the time of writing but we couldn't resist
featuring it here on TFTS.

Ultra Compact BenQ DSC X800 with PMP Functionality Touted as Worlds Thinnest 8 Mega Pixel Digital Camera

If you're looking for an ultra compact digital camera that also boasts
PMP (Portable Multimedia Player) functionality then BenQ's new sleek,
ultra compact DSC X800 8 mega pixel digital camera is hard to ignore.

As thin as BenQ's new 8 mega pixel DSC X800 is, it manages to pack in a
surprising amount of features in a body that measures a mere 9.8mm in
thickness, such as BenQ's SSF (Super Shake Free) technology which will
dynamically compensate for those with unsteady hands, Auto Face tracking
capable of automatically recognising and auto-focusing on up to nine
faces in any given scene, Z-Lighting balance control allowing you to
adjust the lighting and balance of captured imagery and an intriguing
Wise Zoom function that, according to BenQ, 'gives you up to a 30x zoom
effect in VGA size when you focus on a certain area of a distant area of
a distant scene with no degradation in the quality of your photo'
(emphasis our own).

Featuring a 3' bright, colour LTIS LCD back mounted display, 3x optical
zoom and 1cm macro shooting capabilities, the BenQ DSC X800 comes with
29 scene modes offering simple point and shoot dependability and is also
able to capture video in VGA MPEG4 format at 30fps with sound. But where
the DSC X800 really shines is the fact that, as well as serving as an
ultra compact digital camera, it also offers full PMP functionality
allowing you to watch MPEG4 AVI movies and play MP3s (the DSC X800
according also offers a headphone socket).

The Ultra Compact BenQ DSC X800 is undoubtedly a formidable compact
digital camera and is due to go on sale in the first quarter of '08 for
an as yet undisclosed price.

Domino Styled USB Flash Drives Indicate Capacity Used by Dots

Designer Marcos Breder has to be congratulated for coming up with this
brilliantly effective fusion between traditional dominos and USB flash
drives in the form of these rather fetching Domino Pen Drives.

Far from being a mere aesthetic detail, the dots on these Domino USB
Flash Drives actually appear dynamically in order to serve to inform you
as to how much of the drive's capacity is currently in use, with each
dot representing 1GB of memory, thus allowing you to tell at a glance
how much storage space you have left at any given point in time.

An enduring example of simple yet highly effective design, Marcos
Breder's Domino USB Flash Drives are currently a concept work though we
for one would love to see these USB drives make it as a commercial product.

iHome iPod & Zune Radio Docking Stations Ooze Deliciously Retro Appeal

The trend in retro styled gadgetry shows no signs of abating anytime
soon and, when you feast your eyes on these beautifully crafted iPod and
Zune AM/FM radio docking stations from iHome complete with their wood
shells and 'retrotastic' Vernier rotary tuning knobs, it's not hard to
conclude that this a good thing.

Despite the retro appeal of these iHome iPod and Zune docking stations,
however, let their be no doubt that the technology contained within
their wooden cases is very much up to date as, apart from accepting and
charging either your Microsoft or Apple MP3 player (a separate model
caters for each device) these iHome docking stations offer EXB sound
enhancement and Reson8 speaker construction to ensure that the sound
quality these units deliver is more than capable of doing justice to
your digitally stored music collection.

As indicated previously, the device comes in two flavours - the iH14D
which is compatible with 5GB, 4GB and Nano iPods (pictured above) and
the ZN14D catering for Zune devices (pictured below) - with each
offering further connectivity courtesy of a rear mounted line-in socket.

Theses fabulously retro iHome iPod & Zune Radio Docking Stations retail
for around $70 each.

CaseMate Handcrafted Gold & Diamond iPhone Case – A Lesson in iVulgarity

Regular readers will know that, in the main, we have never particularly
warmed to 'blinged-out' gadgets or jewel encrusted gadget accessories
(and that's putting it mildly) and, to be brutally honest, we see no
reason as to why we should go making any exceptions as far as this
Handcrafted Gold & Diamond iPhone Case from CaseMate is concerned.

Of course it ultimately boils down to question of taste, and, as far as
it goes, we can only offer our opinions of this particularly gaudy Apple
iPhone case - though you may, of course, think it's the best thing since
sliced bread - but we think its just about the most vulgar accessory
we've ever come across (and we've come across some especially vulgar
items in our ceaseless toil to bring you content here on TFTS).

This embodiment of what we'll subsequently term as 'iVulgarity'
consists of an 18K gold case featuring no less than 42 hand mounted
diamonds (totalling 3.2 carats) and, thankfully, it's a strictly limited
edition so the chances of us ever seeing it in the flesh, so to speak,
is fairly remote.

It's hardly as if we needed yet more evidence that items that so
patently strive for that 'blinged-out' look invariably loose any sense
of style or desirability but, just in case we hadn't laboured our
perspective on the matter enough, we present you with what is
undoubtedly our closing argument.

Our apologies to any of you who lust over such objects, but, the way we
see it is that the only value we could place on this hideous monstrosity
of a case is purely monetary - to the tune of some $20,000 - though
that's not to undermine the craftsmanship involved.

Samsung W7900 Projector Phone With 5.0 Megapixel Camera

In January Samsung had unveiled the W7900 projector phone. The W7900 can
display video on a 50-inch screen courtesy a Texas Instruments DLP Pico
chipset in the phone. The W7900 features a 5.0 megapixel camera
front-facing camera for video calls and an OS that supports widgets.

The DLP projector has a 480 x 320 resolution and can be controlled from
the 3.2-inch 400 x 240 OLED touchscreen. So basically with this phone
you can share PowerPoint slides, view images, and watch videos. The
phone comes equipped with built-in speakers. The projector projects on
any flat smooth surface giving you the opportunity to enjoy a novel
multimedia experience. The projector light can also be used as a
flashlight. Samsung is promoting the feature as a neat tool for
instantaneous media sharing that expands the scope of using the mobile
as a tool for business presentations.

The W7900 supports 3G HSDPA up to 7.2Mbps and global roaming
(900/1800/1900 MHz).

The W7900 is set to be released in Korea this month followed by a
European release where it will be sold as model I7410 but apparently
without the projector. As of now no pricing details are available.
